Germán holds a degree (BSc) in Human Biology with major in Epidemiology (Universidad de la República), and a PhD in Immunology and Infectious Diseases (Montana State University). He is a faculty member at the Sciences College (Universidad de la República – Uruguay) in the Virology and the Geography departments, after finishing a postdoc position in Biodiversity and Genetics (Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas Clemente Estable).
Previously he held an Assistant Professor position at the Biostatisitcs unit in the Medicine School (Universidad de la República) and has acted as consultant in biostatistics, geography and spatial analysis for several government agencies in Uruguay.
He is a member of the Bat Specialists Group (IUCN – Species Survival Commission) and co-founder of the Program for Bat Conservation from Uruguay (PCMU).
His research lines focus on disease ecology and bat ecology and conservation, and the work combines field work (mainly with bats and rodents), laboratory bench work and mathematical and statistical modeling.
